What's the deal with the name?
"The Geeky Jock" was the name of a column I wrote in college for the Michigan Tech Lode newspaper. I was labeled as a geek by my friends for spending so much time on the computer and I played basketball at Michigan Tech, which I guess made me a jock. The columns I wrote were about computers and technology, just like this site.

Who is this Geeky Jock guy anyway?
I guess you could call me a "geek on a budget." I have a passion for technology and I'm fascinated with it. But, I'm not like your stereotypical geek. I'm not a gamer. I do like to do a lot of other things besides sit on the computer. I am capable of a relationship with the opposite sex (I am married). I don't like Star Trek. And, I don't buy technology just for the geekiness of it. I shop for and buy technology that has real value.

A little on my background: I didn't become a geek until my sophomore year of college at Michigan Tech University. I graduated from there with a Scientific and Technical Communication degree in 2003. I'm currently living in Oshkosh, WI working at Oshkosh Truck as a Curriculum Design Specialist.

Why should anyone take your advice?
Because I do my homework, that's why. OK, I'm not claiming to be omniscient, but I do consider myself to be an expert on the consumer technology market. I subscribe to three high-tech magazines and I read them cover-to-cover every month. I subscribe to no fewer than 10 email newsletters on computers and technology. I monitor the market every day to see what products are at what price points. I read product reviews, buying guides, and the science behind high-tech products so that I am a very informed consumer. I've built seven computers. I've bought everything from MP3 players to home theater systems, digital cameras to USB drives and just about everything in between. Why do I do these things? Call me crazy, but I really enjoy learning about this stuff. Oh, and I almost forgot, I am far from rich so I always make sure that I'm getting the best product for my money. I don't always buy the latest and greatest. I look for the product that fits me best, and I always get the best deal. I think this is a unique perspective. That being said, the consumer technology market is so crazy that no one can follow it all. If you think I missed something or made a mistake, let me know by using the feedback form.

Why do we need another web site about technology?
Because this site is built for real people, not die-hard geeks or technophiles. I write from the perspective of value and functionality, not from the perspective of what's hot right now. I'll show you how you can make informed buying decisions so that you can be high-tech without carrying huge balances on your credit card. I'm not going to go into so much detail that you get bored to death like a lot of sites. I'm going to get to the point and tell you why or why not a product is worth your money. Go ahead and search for another site on the web like this. It's not out there.
